iPhone 5: My Expectations

Everyone is excited for one of Apple's iconic devices, the iPhone 5. Though no one knows for sure, we have our "expectations" of what will be packed within Apple's new iPhone. Sometimes the rumors are true. Sometimes the rumors are not. This is what I expect to see in Apple's latest iPhone.

One of the most expected features of the next generation iPhone is the new Apple A5 chip. The current version of the iPhone has the A4 chip. The A5 chip is one of my most expected features. The iPad has it and many other phones have dual core processors. Why not the iPhone since Apple likes having the best? I also expect to see the iPhone in white this time. The white iPhone 4 was introduced, but never released. I think Apple is waiting for the iPhone 5 to release a white version. I definately expect to see 4G HSPA+ in the AT&T model of the iPhone. It's possible it with support both LTE and HSPA+, but I'm pretty sure we'll at least get HSPA+. iOS 5 should be released sometime during the release as well, so I'm expecting that. I also expect FaceTime over 3G/4G, longer battery life, and additional carriers such as Sprint.

These are just my expectations. We'll find out if the iPhone 5 will have these features, or better yet, if the next generation iPhone will be called the 'iPhone 5'. We can only hope these features are included, but I'm sure Apple will find something to win us over with.

Tour of a Geek's Room

I've been getting a few requests from my viewers asking for a tour of my room. I thought it was a great idea. It'd give them an exclusive look of how I live and work on a daily basis. Originally I was inspired by David Di Franco to finally make this video. So, come and take a look at where I run my show every day. Thanks for taking a look. This video is in two parts. I'd rather not waste white space, so you can click here to view part 2 if you'd like.

iPhone Tracking Owners' Location

Researchers have recently come upon that Apple's iPhone is tracking and recording your location coordinate along with the time you were in that certain place.  The iPhone can track down the exact longitude and latitude of the locations that you have been.  These locations on some devices have been store for more than a year for some users.

Once the iPhone is plugged into the owners computer or any computer, the locations get synced to the
computer.  This might not seem like a big deal at first but once you start to think about what this means, it could potentially lead to identity theft, or credit card information theft.  This raises a lot of privacy concerns for many iPhone users.

Although, when you get to thinking even more about your locations possibly getting released to the public, is it really a big deal?  Yes the credit card and identity theft are major concerns but at the moment, many phone users, not just iPhone users, are posting their current locations to places such as Gowalla and FourSquare.  We have also ran into instances similar to this with Google and their "Latitude" system in 2009.  The "Latitude" program allowed cell phone owners to enable their cell phones to give out the details of their locations to "trusted" contacts.  While this raised a privacy concern, Google claimed that users had to specifically choose who their location data was available to.

Another reason this should not be a big concern for users is because cell phone providers are already tracking phone locations.  But from what we know at the moment, these records are only available to law enforcement.  So what is Apple using with this location information?  Could it be used to spy on your family, friends, or just a random person?  Yes, it could but I honestly do not think that this is why Apple is tracing the locations.  They are most likely just using the information for advertising to the public and not necessarily selling the information or giving it away to agencies.  Apple is most likely not just trying to trace where the users are.

So what do you think about this incident?  Is this something that will grow and become a big incident or do you think it will just pass over within a month?  Also, do you think this is such a big security flaw even though we never knew about the ability for the iPhone to do this until this week?

iPod Touch 4G Review

In a world with many music players, one company introduced a device that  has changed the way we think about music devices. ladies and gentlemen,  Apple has updated one of their revolutionary products in September of 2010, called the iPod Touch 4G. Today we will be going over the internal and external parts of the device. We will also look at some of the great features of the iPod.

Inside the hood, there is a blazing fast 1GHz Apple A4 Processor and 256MB of ram. You can buy the 8GB, 32GB or 64 GB sizes. It has 2 Cameras, a rear and  front facing. The front facing camera is 0.3 MP, and it records video at 480p. The rear facing camera is 0.8 MP,  and it will record video at 720p HD. The Mic is in there top too, and it has fairly good sound quality, but not the best. There is, of course, a battery in this device which will give you 40 hours for music, and 7 hours for video, games and browsing the Internet. Last, but not least, one of the most revolutionary parts of the device is the screen. The screen has a resolution of 960-by-640, and it is 3.5 inches. Apple calls this the Retina Display. It is one of the best looking displays out in the market, as of January 2011. The bad part of the screen is that it is not IPS, which means from some angles the screen looks a little washed out. The iPhone 4,   however, has an IPS display so its screen does not look washed out from any angle. That was basically the inside of the device.

The internal parts of the device were amazing, but what about the external design? The front of the magnificent device holds an excellent glass panel, which protects the display. It is not Gorilla Glass, but it is still very good.  The front facing camera is there too. On the left side of the device, you see the volume rocker, which is fairly easy to use. On the devices back, you see your rear facing camera and mic. On the right side of the device, you see nothing but chrome. Without the bottom, this would be a useless device, because the bottom has your speaker, dock connector, and headphone jack. The top of the device has a really useful button and that button is called the sleep/wake button. That was the external design of the device. Next stop is features so hold on for the ride.

Now, what are some amazing things that an iPod Touch 4G, can actually do? I guess it is time to find out. One feature that it has uses the front facing camera and it is called FaceTime. FaceTime lets you video chat with other iPod Touch 4G users, iPhone 4 users and of course Mac users. If you like watching videos, you'll love this app: YouTube. It lets you watch your favorite YouTube videos, straight from your iPod. Of course, you can search for anything, view the featured content, and login to your own account. If you like to game with other people, you'll enjoy this app: Game Center. Game Center lets you challenge other people around the world, to see who is better at a game. You can also browse the Internet,  and check your Email with this device. If you like Music, TV Shows, and Movies, you should know that you can rent or purchase them straight from your iPod, with the iTunes application. One feature everyone loves about the iPod Touch is the App Store, which lets you get hundreds of thousands of apps. They could be free, or paid applications. Let’s say you were playing a game and you got an email? You would have to close your app and check your email,  right? Now, with the iPod Touch 4G, you can check your email without closing the game. The feature that will let you do that is called multitasking. Those were some of the main and exciting features about the iPod Touch 4G.

We have talked about a lot of great things that are in the iPod Touch 4G. We talked about the internal parts of the device, the external design of the device, and about the main features of the device. One thing you might be thinking about asking, is do I recommend this iPod? The solid answer is, yes, I do, because it offers so many features for such a sleek looking, portable device. It also lets you explore an ever changing world of apps.  This would be a great device for anyone because of it's features, and it would especially be great for a pre-teen or a teen, because it would let them talk to their friends face to face. This is an amazing device and I highly recommend everyone go out and buy it.

Redsn0w 4.3.1 Untethered Jailbreak

The Dev Team has done it again. With last night's update to Redsn0w and PwnageTool, there is now an untethered jailbreak for all 4.3.1 iOS devices, except for the iPad 2. Downloading the 4.3.1 firmware took about half an hour while downloading redsn0w and jailbreaking my iPhone 4 took less than 10 minutes. If you need to unlock you'll have to use PwnageTool to preserve your baseband and it will be another 24 hours according to MuscleNerd before the ultrasn0w unlock is updated for this new jailbreak. I was still on 4.1 and was due for an update.

The video shows how simple this was to do, but if you need a step by step you can find it here.
