Snow Leopard Major Additions/Refinements

Intro/QuickTime X

After playing around with Snow Leopard for quite some time, I noticed that there are numerous amounts of additions and refinements to the overall operating system. There are more refinements than new features. The main new feature is QuickTime X. QuickTime X is a nice application that allows you to view videos (of course) and record movies, audio, and your screen which is one of the new main features in QuickTime X. Not all the features that were in QuickTime Pro are in this version of QuickTime, but that may not be a big deal to some people. All the features that you had to pay for in QuickTime before are now included with QuickTime X. I will be giving a review/overview of QuickTime X shortly.

Exposé

Exposé is also refined in Snow Leopard. Many people use Snow Leopard (especially me), and it now enhances your experience with your Mac. It is arranged in a classier fashion, and it prevents screen clutter of your application windows. When you hold down on a certain application, all the windows will open in that application will be shown in Exposé. Pressing tab will open Exposé in your other open applications. Also while in Exposé, your minimized windows are shown at the bottom of the screen.

Stacks

Stacks has also undergone a makeover. Stacks is much more professional-looking while still bringing you the same wonderful organization tool that Apple has provided. As everyone knows Stacks is very nice when you want to quickly access something. Now Stacks is scrollable, and now when you click on a folder in a Stacks, Stacks will bring you to the contents of that folder without opening the finder window. It was very annoying before when Stacks rerouted you to Finder.

Finder/Speed/Responsiveness

Speaking of Finder, it has become much more responsive and fast making it much easier to use. It has been totally rewritten in 64 bit, as have many of the other applications making them more responsive and fast. Waking up your computer from sleep and shut-down is much faster preventing wasted time waiting for your computer to do these sometimes stressful tasks. In addition to all of this, Microsoft Exchange support is now available.

Conclusion

Overall, Snow Leopard has many new refinements that enhance your experience using your already-wonderful Mac. It is a nice addition to Leopard, and it is definitely worth checking out especially since it is only $30.

Apple Online Store Is Down

The Apple Online store is down. Now, I know this happens sometimes, but only when Apple is adding new products (as they did this summer on for the iPhone 3GS and new MacBook line), or lowering prices. Does this mean Apple is adding new products, like an iPod Touch 3G maybe? Not likely since the iPod event hasn't occurred. Or are they lowering prices of the iMacs in preparation for a new line this fall and adding new features to them in the process? An SD Card Slot on the iMacs? Could Quicktime 10 be available to download on Leopard not just Snow Leopard?  And maybe they are redesigning the site for Snow Leopard, which is most likely. Whatever happens, we know will be very nice and hopefully new! Glad I got you excited!

Snow Leopard OMG!

Mac OS X 10.6 or Snow Leopard has arrived! If you pre-ordered Snow Leopard before Wednesday, August 26, 2009, you should have received a nice big brown box on the front of your door. If not, go look, or yell at Fed Ex! As for me, do I have the godly new OS? As of now, no. I just ordered it of the Apple website with standard 3 to 5 day shipping. So now that you have Snow Leopard, what are you gonna do? If you haven't what are you waiting for? Huh? The next greatest OS is just sitting there waiting to be put on your Mac!! So let's do it!

  1. Make a back up of your Macintosh HD using Time Machine on Mac OS Leopard.
  2. Make sure that you BACKED IT UP!
  3. Now, you can put the Snow Leopard Install DVD in your super drive.
  4. You have two options on what you can do next, either shutdown and hold "C" to boot into the DVD or wait for a window to open.
  5. For those who have waited, you now simply click on the DVD in the window and go through the installation
  6. BUT WAIT! You can also pick what you want to install in the second or third sequence.
  7. "Oh look mom I am on Snow Leopard!" If you did everything right (hopefully), you should have Snow Leopard

Congrats and enjoy "The Most Advanced Operating System Finely Tuned"

Thanks Apple!!!

Snow Leopard: Don't judge a book by its cover

Ah, Snow Leopard. The most advanced operating system on the planet as of 12AM on 8/28/09. But is it really a "new" OS, or just an upgrade to Leopard? To tell you the truth, its a brand spankin' new OS. It may look the same on the outside, and honestly it really does look like Leopard. But on the inside, not even close. In fact, only 20% of Snow Leopard will be Leopard. The enhanced Snow Leopard Finder was re-written from the ground up. Quick Time, also re-written from the ground up, has "quick trimming" like on the iPhone. So yes, you can now record from a video device and trim it up, right inside Quick Time, which is very handy. You can now save videos to the web directly from QuickTime. That means you can record, trim, and send to YouTube. Quick Time is even giving Screen Flow a run for their money by allowing you to record your screen. Mail, iCal, and Address Book have been re-written as well. All three apps now have MS Exchange support. In Mail, you can now compose and edit HTML email messages more reliably. Heck, Mail can now even detect flight numbers. iCal now automatically sets up your Gmail and Yahoo calendars. So you don't have to go back and forth.

That's only half of the new things inside Snow Leopard. Pre order your copy now! All you need to do is click here.

iTunes Introduces Digital 45's: Two Songs 1 Price.

Recently, Apple has put Digital 45s in the iTunes Store. For those of you who don't know what Digital 45 is, it is a type of music that holds two songs in one. There are two sides of an original Digital 45: Side A and Side B. Side A would have a popular song and Side B would have a lesser know track or a special. For example the song Billie Jean by the King Michael Jackson is side A and Can't Get Outta The Rain a lesser know song is side B. These Digital 45s will cost you $1.49 USD to $1.99 USD respectively. iTunes has many great D45s in the store and I hope that they will add more.

I hope you enjoyed this post.
