Get a Mac

Today I'm not doing a post about Tek Nation. This post is about a few reasons why people should use macs instead of PCs. I picked about five different reasons I found about this subject.

Here are my reasons. The first one is Apple's build quality. The design and build quality of a mac is very great according to me. The only people who can build macs are Apple themselves. With a PC there are tons of manufacturers. So, I like how you only have to go to one place to get a mac. I also love Mac OS X. It's simple, fast, and easy to navigate. My experience with Windows has been the exact opposite. Another fact about macs is that macs can run both Windows and Mac OS X. This feature is very overlooked and it needs some recognition. The other reasons are going to be left a mystery, so if you'd like to see everything in full detail, please take a look at the video above the text.

What's in My Dock? July 2010

This is Alex from ace4vikings on YouTube here today to share with you a tour of my Dock on my MacBook Pro. These are the applications I use regularly on my Mac. I have to say, the application that I use the most is either Mail or Tweetie. I’m a social media addict and I love to keep in touch with people over Twitter. I also love Mail because it is so much easier than logging into my Gmail account. iTunes is also a favorite of mine.

If you’d like to find out more information, please watch the video above. Thanks for taking the time to look at this post.

The Coolest Mac OS X Screensaver

Finding the perfect wallpaper is quite a difficult task, but the quest for the best screensaver is simple. Here I have the App Wall Screensaver, which simply is a screensaver compromised of apps. More specifically, it is based upon either the top free or paid app in the iTunes App Store. The screensaver gets live updates from the App Store feed and displays the app icons. If you are a geek as I am and most of the people on TekSocial, you will really enjoy this wallpaper. Below is a video demo of the screensaver in action:

iChat vs Adium - Fight!

For about two years now, there are always heated debates in the Chat sector of the Mac, debating if iChat or Adium is the best Mac Chatting client. I've used both Adium and iChat for an extensive amount of time, and I personally prefer iChat since it has a simplistic UI and I don't use the platforms it doesn't support anyways, so I don't have a problem with that. So, I've decided to make a few rounds of head to head competition on the major aspects of what is expected of a chat client. Then, at the end, I'll post comments from people who I've asked the preference of client.

Round 1 - Platform Support

iChat and Adium both support multiple chatting platforms, such as AIM, Jabber, MobileMe, and usually work fine. However, Adium supports almost 4 times more of what iChat supports, and it also works fine. What Adium supports that iChat doesn't:

  • Yahoo! Messenger
  • MySpace IM
  • Facebook
  • QQ
  • LiveJournal
  • ICQ
  • Novell GroupWise
  • MSN Messenger

Adium definitely is the winner in Round 1. iChat doesn't have a wide selection of different chat support, it only supports the basics.

Round 2 - User Interface

Now, here is where things get kind of tough. Adium has an OK basic UI, however you can fully customize it to whatever fits you. iChat has an amazing basic nice and bland UI, however you can't change the font, UI, or colors unless you use a 3rd party application, such as chax. However, the latest version of Chax is no longer an add-on, its an actual app. But it looks exactly like iChat and you can fully edit it. So who wins this one? Its really a tie because Adium's base UI is weaker than iChat's, but you can edit the UI completely and make it just like you want it. You can change fonts and order of how iChat's buddy list is sent by using Chax, but you can't change the actual UI like it's colors. You can change the format which is included in the actual iChat(meaning you can change format w/o Chax), to Bubbles, Boxes, or Compact. Round 2 is a tie between iChat and Adium.

Round 3 - What you think

I asked a few people of what they thought of iChat and what they thought of Adium and also asked them what the better client was. Here's what they Said:

TrueSongmedia answered Adium is better: "because it 1) is more stable ... 2) supports more protocols ... 3) looks better ... 4) can log/organize chats". He also went on to add "iChat is okay, but Apple should get a clue and use the libpurple library for IM instead of writing their own crappy one".

Jeff answered Adium because it had multiple platform support.

So, it looks like the majority of people prefer Adium because of the reasons I've stated in the blog post. It would be nice to see Apple make iChat more customizable, but seeing how pretty much every other Apple-made Application is nice and basic, I don't see that happening in the near future. But since I do LOVE the simplistic interface on iChat, I'll keep to iChat.

Once You Go Mac, You'll Never Go Back.

Dear Readers,

I Have Recently Switched To Mac.

Hello all. Yes, I am really posting this blog. All of you Windows users are, I'm sure, looking forward to getting your hands on a Windows 7 computer. Well I would rethink that and try to get your hands on a Mac OS X. I am a recent PC switcher. I am now a Mac and trust me, there's no turning back for me. I was tired of being scared of getting viruses all the time and feeling insecure while on the internet, even though I had an antivirus program. Now it's not like that but enough with my opinions, let me back it up.

The Mac Fact.

So, to start off I want to talk to all of you Mac users first. I have a couple of questions for you all.

1. Would you ever go back to Windows?

2. Do you feel safer to surf the web and download content?

3. Is it really that much easier as everyone says it is?

Now those are the basic questions for a Mac user. Now all of you Windows users can answer those about your OS, but, unlike the Mac, I bet you're answers weren't as positive as those of a Mac users. The reason being that Macs are just more convenient to use and much more easier to use. On Windows some things have Macs beat. Come on I'm not a Windows hater because I once owned one, but I'm sure if you current Windows users would actually make the "big move" to Mac, you wouldn't regret it not one bit.

Software.

The software in Mac is just so easy to use. Ask any Mac user. The thing I noticed on PC's when I used one was that it came with all this software, but I hardly used most of them. I use all the software on Mac because it just fits me. The software is really great on Macs because it all goes together in some way. If you buy a Mac now you get iLife which comes with iMovie, iPhoto, GarageBand, and iWeb. Many more are included but those are the main ones. Mac is the way to go.

Why Not Mac?

Well you have seen the facts and you have heard most about Mac. I'm sure there are some things I have left out, but the information I have given you sure would make me consider Mac. Trust me, you will not want to pick up another PC again if you just give Mac a chance. So here's the question I leave you with, Why not Mac?
