iPad Mini or Nexus 7? Which one is right for You?

iPad Mini or Nexus 7? The answer to this question is slightly more complicated than it may seem. The answer is dependent on what you want and need in a 7-inch tablet. Both are very good 7-inch tablets in my opinion, and there are pluses and minuses to both of them. The first factor you need to consider, is pricing. How much are you willing to pay?

The iPad mini's pricing goes as follows:

16GB: $329 (WiFi only)

$459 (WiFi+cellular)

32GB: $429 (WiFi only)

$559 (WiFi+cellular)

64GB: $529 (WiFi only)

$659 (WiFi+cellular)

Fourth generation iPad review

The fourth generation iPad has been out for about two months now, with a new iPad possibly on it’s way in the spring. I’ve been using the new iPad for a few weeks now, and my experiences with it have been positive to say the least. I chose to get the iPad not because it was popular, but because I liked what I seen. The performance that it delivered in store was much better than the performance of my last tablet, a Motorola Xoom; the online reviews of the iPad were overall, quite positive, and the app support was much better than what any Android tablet could deliver at the time of me writing this. I thought about the Microsoft Surface, but apps and performance made me think twice about that option. Although it does look like a nice tablet, Windows RT, poor app support, and performance issues made me decide against that tablet. I thought the decision through, and eventually decided that the iPad would probably be the best tablet for me.

Once I got the iPad home, and got it out of the box, the setup process was pretty simple. I applaud Apple on the simple setup process, and simple UI throughout all of iOS. I made it through the setup process in less than five minutes, and then it was ready to use, and test.

Is the Wii U Going to Be a Success?

The Wii U is Nintendo's latest and greatest games console. This is the successor to the immensely popular Wii which launched in 2006 and was revoloutionary at the time with its motion control gaming. This time round Nintendo have introduced a new type of controller, one which none of us have ever seen before. The Wii U controller is now more like a tablet device with controls seen around the bezel of the screen. The idea being that extra information can be shown on the gamepads screen such as a map, inventory or can even act as a individual screen whilst playing games. However Nintendo have announced a series of different controllers that are compatible with the new Wii U console there is of course the gamepad wit the touch screen in the middle as shown above, the classic wiimote and numchuck as well as a new controller that is a cross between a Xbox 360 controller and the current Classic Controller Pro already for the Wii.

The Wii U is has had a boost in graphics sinse the Wii, the Wii U now featured HD graphics which it desperately needed as the Wii graphics were dated even back in 2006. Now with the increase in resoloution it will hopefully allow more detailed and realistic looking games to the Wii U a thing that the Wii struggled to do and developers chose to give games a cartoon aesthetic to hide the Wii's glaring problems.

Nintendo held their presentation yesterday at E3 and many people felt underwhelmed. Nintendo spoke briefly about the possiblities of the WiiU and how it is going to be used in a home enviroment. They also announced a few new games for the WiiU platform including Super Mario  Bros U, Pikmin 3, Lugi Mansion and Nintendoland. However these first party games weren't particuarly new or innotative, the new Super Mario game looked literally a clone of the Super Mario Bros game already on the Wii console.

The main thing that is of concern here is price which is yet to be revealed by Nintendo. For the Wii U to be successful it has to be at the right price point as at the moment there aren't may compelling reasons to upgrade to if you are a current Wii owner. Yes, more third party titles are going to come the Wii U such as Batman: Arkham City and ZombiU, which taylor to the hardcore gamers. The gamepad seems to be the unique selling point to the console and its going to be interesting how much it is going to be for the gamepad and if you want a two player experience that is going to add up over time.

Why Facebook Subscriptions Won't Mean Anything for Twitter

On Wednesday Facebook dubbed their new “subcription” based service. A basic summary can easily be said as that this is the equivalent of Twitter’s “follow” functionality. Instead of augmenting someone to your already magnifying Facebook friends list, you can simply add them to your subscriptions and have their posts show up in your feed.

With the new added functionality of being able to add people to your subscription, much recent contemplation of various social media users have come out that we might see a downfall in Twitter usage. My reply simply put is no.

The main added benefit this brings to the Facebook table is the ability to be more closer to people you don’t actually know. Ashon Kutcher, Lady Gaga, and unfortunately Justin Bieber can be apparent examples of people that might see the most substantial outcome of all of this. But the main complication for me is that last time I checked Facebook already allowed for this type of functionality. Popular and heavy users of the platform 97% of the time already have a Facebook “fan” page.

The only convenience I can see here is the fact that the nuisance FarmVille updates will be inherent in this situation. The day of finally having a clean Facebook feed is upon us, but the day that we will see Twitter plumpet to the bottom is not upon us. Twitter is in the same trouble that it has always been in.

For Google+ converts like me that don’t use Facebook anymore, this does not convince at least me to make a the switch back. But granted, I think criticizing might not be the proper thing to do as this very well can be just to keep with high competition.

Steve Jobs, 6 Weeks to Live: My Thoughts

I don't usually post personal blog posts on TekSocial, but this I might just to gather everyone's opinions.Jobs, back in the day Please, set aside 5-10 minutes of your time to read and comment on this post.

It has been announced in various news articles that Apple CEO, Steve Jobs, who took time off to focus on his health, has been given 6 weeks to live. This is due to the fact that he has pancreatic cancer, which grows on part of your digestive system. For the faint hearted, the pancreas is a 6-inch long gland and is shaped like a leaf. It provides insulin, unless you're diabetic and releases hormones which revolve around digestion.

Earlier on, I watched a video Chris Pirillo recorded and published to YouTube, claiming that when he announced the news to his near 92,000 followers on Twitter, a 'kid' messaged him back saying that he will 'celebrate his death'. Why? I'm unsure.

What Jobs has created, a company that only recently claimed the top spot of the computing market, a music device range that has changed the music industry and the people around us, why must someone come to their senses and say such a negitive and disgusting thing. Sure, he may be a kid, no younger than 13 unless his parents don't know he's on Twitter but use some common sense at least, especially when you're talking to a person you don't know in person who has so much power on the internet.

If Jobs pulls through his hard time, or not, we should all remember what Steve has created. A range of products that has made us, 'Think Differently'.
