T-Mobile G1: DOA?

Are you one of the lucky people to own the coveted T-Mobile G1? Unfortunately for you, there has been some breaking news compliments of Android's software engineer Dave Sparks. According to his Twitter, Dave Sparks announced there might not be an update to the G1. What?! Yes, it's true. Apparently HTC didn't give the G1 enough storage, so an update is physically impossible for the phone.  HTC, what were you thinking?  How can you compete in a market full of iPhones and Blackberries and never consider giving your device enough storage?  Were you so confident that you thought Google would never have to update the software?

I don't know about you, but I'm really let down by this news. In my opinion, Google was well on its way to global domination with Google Docs, Voice, and seemingly the G1, but this is a step in the wrong direction. I thought the G1 was a real contender to the iPhone, but how can a stale item compete with something that is constantly updating? Oh that's right, it can't. Google, HTC, and T-Mobile, I hope if the three of you choose to make another phone, you consider the future and give it a decent amount of storage.

A SMS Hijack to every iPhone in the World

Receiving a text message with a single square character on Thursday could cause you to tread into deep panic and I would suggest shutting down your iPhone, immediately.

Using a flaw the researchers have found in the iPhone's handling of text messages they can send a series of invisible SMS messages that can give a hacker complete power over any of the iPhone's functions without you knowing. All of this includes dialing, messaging, app functions, picture ability, and even theft of your contact lists numbers.

So far the only way you can stop this from happening to yourself is to shut down your phone till the end of Thursday night, something most people are not willing to do. Apple has been notified of this situation countless times however the company hasn't stated or released a patch meaning according to Apple they are safe.

The SMS bug is just one of the many researchers are looking out now in terms of the iPhone's security backdoors that Apple has left open. This was found in the iPhone's code that a private developer has found meaning he must know what he is doing. The vulnerability level according to the developer is a 10 meaning anyone that knows what they are doing could take over every iPhone in the world.

These bugs are not only in the iPhone though however in the Windows Mobile platform phones as well as the Android, however those companies have listened and have patched each of there phones to date.

What is WebOS?

WebOS is a smartphone platform that is powered by Linux & developed by Palm. WebOS was first introduced at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas on January 8, 2009 (same day Palm Pre was introduced). WebOS is designed to work with touchscreen smartphones or devices. The OS has Web 2.0 integration (basically, allowing you to do more than just retrieve information; you can actually search, post comments & upload pictures to a social-networking site, upload videos to YouTube, & so much more). WebOS includes a suite of applications such as: photos, mail, calendar, maps, tasks, calculator, & so on to meet personal information management. WebOS uses web technologies such as: HTML 5, JavaScript, & CSS. WebOS is based on a system of "cards" to manage multitasking. Applications can be launched from the "Launcher" or the Quick Launcher bar. Palm stated that the Pre could manage up to 12 "cards." The OS doesn't include a virtual keyboard as it has a slide-out keyboard. WebOS web browser allows for portrait & landscape orientation. The Palm Pre is the currently the only smartphone running on WebOS. Photobucket

Google Latitude For iPhone Released

Google latitude has been released for the iPhone.

For those who are unaware, Google Latitude is a location service that uses your cell phones GPS and WiFi signals to learn your location, with other Latitude users. (Presumably friends and family). One of Latitude's biggest features is the ability to view the locations of your Latitude contacts, from your computer, within iGoogle. This may be useful for a parent who is at work, and would like to check in and see where their child is. Of course, Google has built in a number of privacy settings that you can customize to your liking.

The iPhone version of the application does vary slightly from that on other phones. According to Google. Apple requested that the App be web based, and not be a localized application... to avoid confusion over the built in Maps application on the iPhone which google also powers.

T-Mobile G1 Tethering To My Macbook Pro & iPod Touch

What's up guys, Byron here once again. I know you guys have got to be tired of seeing me by now but I got another video. I recently rooted my T-Mobile G1. Rooting is similar to Jailbreaking in the sense that it gives the user priviledge to run apps that aren't approved by google/t-mobile. Right at the top of the list of unapproved apps is any App that allows you to tether your 3g service. In this video I demonstrate my G1 tethering to both my Macbook Pro & iPod Touch. Hope you guys enjoy!
