Tek Nation Ep 4: Android Madness

Join Alex (ace4vikings) as he presents you with episode 4 of Tek Nation. We're 4 episodes in already! It's crazy and I appreciate all of the support and exposure it has gained. I hope it continues. This week's episode is not in full screen, I was messing around in screenflow and it's a long story. But I hope you still like the episode. Enough rambling. My YouTube channel.

Today's topics are the Motorola Droid 2, the Blackberry Torch, the jailbreakme.com jailbreak for i OS 4, and Blu-Rays are coming to a Redbox kiosk near you.

The Motorola Droid has an amazing keyboard. It's a huge improvement over the first Droid. The device also features a 3.7 WVGA multi touch display. Verizon is charging $199 on a 2 year contract.

The Blackberry Torch was announced on August 11, 2010. I have to say, RIM did an amazing job with this phone. Blackberry OS 6 is great. I wouldn't say it's as great as Apple's i OS platform but it's up there. The web browser is much improved and the operating system specializes in social media. The form factor for the phone is also very nice and the keyboard looks awesome.

Jailbreakme.com is a website that has a very simple concept. To let users jailbreak their device without downloading potentially dangerous software onto you're computer. So, all you have to do is go to jailbreakme.com and swipe to jailbreak. Please note you must have an iPod touch 2nd generation or iPhone 3G (or later) running iOS 4 to jailbreak you're device.

Redbox is a very awesome DVD rental service. It's convenient, it's cheap, and overall a very great experience. Well, you may have noticed they don't have Blu-Ray discs available for rental. Redbox has made an announcement that BLu-Ray discs will be coming to a kiosk near you soon for only $1.50 per night. Standard DVDs will still be $1.00 per night.

Droid 2 Unboxing

A couple days ago I picked up the Droid 2 and unboxed it on YouTube and so far I am completely satisfied with the product to fit my liking. At first glance the Droid looks sleek with a pop out keyboard, touch screen controls and a whole lot more.

To be honest, this is my first Android phone and I couldn't see myself using another operating system for quite some time, while I am on Verizon for the time being. Hopefully my Android experience keeps going strong and all the hype lives up to my expectations.

T-Mobile's Project Emerald: HTC Glacier - Dual Core Smartphone

Recently, T-Mobile has hinted towards one of their future endevor's entitled "Project Emerald". In Quarter 4 of 2009, T-Mobile had announced "Project Black", which entailed great budget plans for current and future T-Mobile customers. The buzz that follows this year's "Project" is that T-Mobile will be unveiling a new HTC smartphone to compliment their brand new HSPA+ network. With the addition of the Samsung Vibrant, it would seem that T-Mobile is attempting to take a step forward in the competitive smartphone race. It's obvious that T-Mobile has been behind in the race with its fellow carriers for having "The Best Smartphone" available, so hopefully this "Project Emerald" will help usher T-Mobile ahead of the pack.

It can be assumed that this rumored phone will take advantage of T-Mobile's HSPA+ network, considering the fact that T-Mobile does not currently have a HSPA+ enabled phone available on their network.

In this video, I discuss T-Mobile's Project Emerald, as well as the rumored HTC Glacier.

Unboxed: Samsung Captivate

Samsung has finally released the Samsung Captivate, the Galaxy S phone for AT&T. This is one of the 4 that will be on major US carriers, and also two more for other carriers in the states. This is the first one to hit the US market, which will be on Sunday July 18. Price for this one is $199.99 on 2 year contract, and $349.99 for the phone with no contract.

The Samsung Captivate has a 4-inch Super AMOLED display, which they state that sunlight will not make the screen unreadable, so I will have to test that in the daylight and other light sources. But in first impressions, the screen reproduces the colors like never before, maybe better than Apple’s Retina Display? I will have to test that as well.

The Captivate has a 1GHZ Hummingbird processor which makes this blazing fast, I shot a video about the Droid X vs Samsung Captivate and the Samsung Captivate won in the speed test of loading up this website!

Overall the first impressions are strong, it runs Android 2.1 with a custom Samsung TouchWiz UI over it, which makes Android all the better, not as good as HTC Sense, but it is functional.

Unboxed: Motorola Droid X

In spirit of the Motorola Droid X launch, I will be presenting Israel's unboxing of the Motorola Droid X. At Gadget Experts we will be breaking down the hardware, software, comparisons to other mobile devices, and then a full review. So far, we think this phone is a beast. It has a massive 4.3-inch multitouch display that has a higher resolution than the iPhone 4's Retina Display. The phone is also running Android 2.1, but will be updated to 2.2 later this summer. The phone will feature full Flash support later in the summer. The Motorola Droid will cost you $199 on a 2 year contract with Verizon Wireless.
