Have Tablets Replaced Laptops?

Many people wonder, mostly including the "average customers', is if tablets have replaced laptops. Read the article to find out.

My answer once again is that it depends. It depends on "Why you use your laptop". If you use your computer for heavy graphic designing, heavy video editing with special effects, professional photo editing or even hardcore gaming (video games like Modern Warfare 3, Battlefield 3, Gears of War 3 etc.) the answer is definitely not. Tablet technology is pretty new and not that much sophisticated to just to those standards. If this is your occasion, I surely recommend buying a laptop. If you use your computer just for checking your e-mail, for light photo and video editing, and playing or using applications mainly as "time-killers", or using it as an Internet source while traveling, well a tablet must be your first choice. Tablets are smaller, thinner, and lighter, with beautiful displays up to 10", high quality cameras, 4G LTE support, and of course, they are way cheaper. Also for most of the tablets in the market, the user can purchase a Bluetooth keyboard which can plug into his/her device, and have a small netbook. That also means that the user can use his/her tablet by using either the touch screen or the keyboard & mouse (or even both, in the same time). If this is your occasion, a tablet is the best solution. Also iOS and Android (especially Android), are really advanced mobile operating systems which in this occasion, can definitely replace a desktop OS. Another advantage is that, all the mobile platforms have application stores, which the user can download, games, editing application and thousands other useful apps for his/her everyday life. Also some tablets have quad-core processors and quad-core graphics which definitely make them as powerful as some really expensive laptops.

The two tablets I suggest you buying in case you belong to the second occasion are:

1.) The New iPad (iOS 5)

2.) Asus Transformer Prime (Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich)

Both of them have excellent specks, 4G support, quad-core processors and graphics, and ship with the two most advanced mobile platforms in the world.

Tablets, compared to laptops, are new technology, which started back in 2010 with the release of the first generation iPad (the very first tablet made by Apple). In conclusion I believe, that "tablet technology” has a lot more to bring to the user, it will become a lot more advanced the next two years and I think that, by 2016, tablets will replace computers.

Instagram for Android Review & First Look

As everyone knows, yesterday at April 4th 2012, after months waiting, Instagram is finally available on the Android Market.

Since a year, Instagram was originally made for the iOS App Store and more specific, for the iPhone, and became a quick success.

The UI of the Android version is exactly the same with the iPhone's. It has five tabs on the bottom: Home, Popular, the tab to take a photo, News and the My Profile tab.

In the "Home" tab you can browse through the photos that the people the user follow shares and the user can like or comment them. In the “Popular” tab the user can browse through the top rated photos of the day. The third tab of course is the one the user uses, to take a picture and share it with his followers. The “News” tab notifies the user when someone likes or comments his/her photo and when another user follows him/her. In the last tab which I call it the "My Profile" tab, the user can edit his account, search for other Instagram users and it has also the feature which lets the user to decide if his/her photos will be private or not. The same features, has the iPhone version.

When taking a photo the user has the option to edit his/her photos by adding cool effects, frames etc. The con with Instagram for Android is that misses one main feature, the one which lets the user blur out specific parts of the picture. That's the only difference between the iPhone and the Android version.

From personal experience I tested Instagram for Android on a Samsung Galaxy S 2, and after using it for a day, I have to say it was a quite good experience. There was only minor lag when browsing through the pictures, but that was it. Also I must say that Instagram for Android, it is released since a day, so if there are any bugs with the app, there will be very soon major updates, that will fix them.

I would rate this app a 4/5. It loses one point due to not having the feature which lets the user to blur out a specific part of the photo.

And finally, Instagram is available on the Android Market for free.

Review: Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1

I got the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 about a week ago. The Galaxy Tab is available in two colors: white and metallic gray. It is sold in a 16 GB model, which is about $500, and a 32 GB model, which is about $600.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 runs Android version 3.2 Touch Wiz and has a dual-core processor (1GHz x 2. It has a 7,000 mAh battery which would last 9 hours of usage time and 1000 hours of standby time with Wi-Fi on and 3900 without Wi-Fi on. Also if you were to use the device with 4G LTE, it would last about 400 hours of standby time.

The Galaxy Tab uses the Android web browser and is compatible with Adobe Flash Player. The Galaxy Tab has the ability to video chat through ooVoo and Skype because it contains a front-facing camera, that is a 2.0 megapixel camera and a 3.0 Megapixel camera on the back of the device. The Galaxy Tab has a beautiful display and a very smooth feeling to it.

The customization that can be done on this device is the following: the ability to add widgets, add what app shortcuts you want and to customize the wallpaper you want on your lock screen, as well as your home screens. This device is great because it has the entire Android Marketplace and the Samsung Marketplace. I've used it to watch YouTube videos, go on the Internet, play apps and for my social media tasks. The device, in my opinion, deserves 4.9 out of 5 stars.
