Spotify Review (Video Included)

If you are like me you want music to listen to while you work. But sometimes you don’t have that option if you are on a computer with no music on it. Of course this is always Pandora radio online, but I thought about giving something else a try. After hearing this program mentioned in a tweet from one of my friends and seeing it referenced in some Facebook statuses I found the program spotify. This program in a nutshell is an online media player that allows you to search for some of your favorite bands and listen to the music at work or on the go. It’s a free application that is compatible with windows, Linux, Macintosh, android, blackberry, ios, and more. In the video I mentioned that the mobile app wasn’t free, but I have to correct myself. The mobile application is free, but to remove adds from the application does cost money. I apologize for that mix up.

This application does some interesting things, but again I wish it could do one thing that I am not sure if it can already do and that is create a playlist with the music you select. You can add it to a queue but once you go to the next song or if the previous song finishes the song goes away. So if you are listening to something and you wanted to remember the song and it already passes you are out of luck.  Aside from that another cool feature about this program is to be able to recommend music to your friends and be able to express what you like. But I like to have people wonder what kind of music I like. Also I do find it kind of pointless to be able and tell your friends what music you like if they can already read it through the facebook home page.

Now I know what your thinking, what kind of music does this application provide? It provides many forms of music including a wide variety of genres. A weird thing about this program is some of the songs you may search for may have been covered by a different band. I say this is weird because not only is it either a good or bad remake of the song, but it also introduces a new band to you to check out. An example of this would be “Killing in the name of” being made by someone else other than “Rage against the machine”.  But if you are bored and have an internet connection and needing music, give spotify a try. Who knows, you might just find a new band you might just like.
