Review: Rick Nelson Case for iPhone 4 by Griffin

I was lucky enough to be a winner in Griffin Technology's monthly review giveaway, and as my review product i got the Rick Nelson Case for the iPhone 4. Its very stylish inside and out. Even though no one but your iPhone sees the inside of the case, its still an attraction. The case itself goes for around $20 and it comes with two Rick Nelson custom guitar picks.

WWDC: My Thoughts on iOS5

I have just watched the Apple iOS5 keynote and to be quite honest, it disappointed me.

Firstly - Twitter integration. It took me a while to see what I love about iOS, and why no other mobile operating system has done it for me, but because of Twitter integration I now have an answer. Isolation. Since the very start, every app has always been isolated to its own little space, and I love that. In android, there are app widgets, this removes the isolation from the rest of the system. I don't know about Blackberry OS as I have never used it, but I'm sure something like that applies. Twitter integration just seems to go against everything that iOS stands for.

Then there's iMessage. From the very start I could see something wrong with it - the icon. People who aren't very tech-savvy, my parents for example, could quite possibly mix up the iMessage app with the Messages app. The fact that they also have very similar names doesn't help with distinguishing the two apps. Furthermore, from the very limited demo we saw, there doesn't seem to be great new features that would make people use this, instead of say PingChat. There are thousands of cross platform apps that do the same thing, quite possibly better, with an already established user-base.

This next thing is a little critical, but it really annoyed me. The lock screen Camera button. It just looked out of place. And to be completely honest, it saves about 5 taps at most.

I will admit that there are some great new features, such as the new additions to Safari, and the amazing new photo editing with Photos. But, in the end, it is still very underwhelming for me. I would love to hear your point of view on this, comment below or contact me on Twitter - @NatIsGleek.

WHO Says Cell Phones Cause Cancer?

The World Health Organization yesterday added radio frequency electromagnetic fields (what cell phones emit) to the list of "possible carcinogenic" agents. This got a lot of press with headlines like, "Mobile Phone Radiation Leads to Brain Cancer!" I for one am not concerned. First, cell phone radiation is non-ionizing meaning its completely different than nuclear or X-rays. Second, the list of "possibly carcinogenic" agents includes things like coffee. Given his addiction to Wawa, the Creative One himself must not be too concerned about "possible" agents. That said, given the dramatic rise in cell phone usage over the past decade I think its likely there will be a increase in brain cancer over the next 20 to 30 years. While not worried, I wouldn't hold my iPhone to my head eight hours a day for 20 years and think no biggie. For those that do use a cell phone a lot, a headset is a smart idea. Sadly, I am quite confident Apple will one day face lawsuits similar to the cigarette industry. I mean there marketing is so great how could one resist using the iPhone. Only in America!

Review of iPhone 4: One Month Later

In just 2 days I'll have had my iPhone 4 from AT&T for exactly 1 month. Must I say, this is the best phone i've ever had in my life. It does everything I want, and more. Below is my review of the iPhone 4 after having it for 1 month.

First off, the iPhone 4 has some amazing features. One of it's key features is it's front FaceTime capable camera. It look amazing and it's one of the best features you could ever ask for on a mobile phone. The issue? You can only do it where there's WiFi, but in Apple's introduction of the iPhone they said that is only in 2010. Maybe we'll be able to Facetime on 3G sometime soon! The phone is extremely fast with it's A4 processor. It handle's multitasking extremely well. The AppStore has over 300,000 applications. The AppStore is really what makes the iPhone what it is. It's super thin, light, feels good in your hand, and it's just flat out amazing. The only issues I've had with it is that it's a MicroSIM, but that's understandable because they needed the space for it's size. Overall, I love this phone and I look forward to seeing what Apple has to offer on the next generation iPhone.
