Dear Yahoo, The PS3 Controller Can Be Charged!

Let me get started by saying that if a big name company doesn't know something simple like the fact that the PS3 controller is rechargeable, then they don't need to be reviewing. In a review of the PS3 from Yahoo, this is a piece of what they said. The PS3 "was all fun and games until the battery dies."

It's funny how Yahoo believes that once the controller dies you have to go out and buy a new one.

This is what Yahoo writer Anne Kadet had to say "Unlike its competitors, which use replaceable AA batteries, the PS3’s remote control is glued shut. When the battery goes, Sony customers have to blow $55 on a new controller."

This really does not make sense to me that someone would think this. If the PS3 controller only lasted one battery life and you had to pay $55 for a new one, then nobody would buy a PS3! I think it would be common sense to think something is wrong when you have to keep buying $55 controllers every few days. Yahoo, if you don't even know when a controller is rechargeable, I think you need to stop reviewing products; especially gaming systems.

An Opinion of the PS3 Slim's Aesthetics

The PS3 Slim has been out for a few days now and I have not been pleased by the aesthetics that Sony has made.

The design of the new PS3 Slim is not that great due to the fact that Sony removed the glossy effect from the original, fat PS3 and added a matte feel towards it. This is how I think of it: If you were to stand up a PS3, Wii, and Xbox 360, the PS3 would stand up very well to others. But if you were to stand a PS3 Slim with the Xbox 360 and a Wii, it is not the same. The slim would feel like it is hiding in the shadows where the original is standing up with pride.

Another reason that I do not like about the new PS3 slim is that it does not have the touch sensitive buttons. Instead, Sony added hard buttons. When I saw the PS3 for the first time, I loved the touch sensitive buttons. It felt like the game system of the future. But when I heard that the slim version had hard buttons, I felt that Sony took a step back.

But other than that, Sony has made a very strategic move by introducing a slim version of the PS3. For $299 you get a bigger 120GB hard drive, the standard blu-ray player, bluetooth & ethernet, and your Dualshock 3 wireless controller. Good job Sony, except next time, go with the glossy.

Cheers,

Theres always one..

Gaming is one of the biggest things since the 90's, and there is 3 main competitors which are Sony (PS3), Nintendo (Wii) and Microsoft (XBOX). One thing this blog post isn't going to do is make an argument between gamers, as many gamers own all of the 3 above consoles.

On the market right now, Sony and Nintendo have more consoles on the market, for Sony the PS3 and PSP and for Nintendo the Wii and DSi, but what about Microsoft. Microsoft already have their vintage XBOX console, but what a handheld from Microsoft? Well, you could say that one of their 'netbooks' are one of their takes on the handheld console, but please, you can't game on the netbook. Maybe a laptop, but its about 3-4 times bigger than Sony and Nintendo handhelds. So, c'mon Microsoft, where is your handheld? Is it still being featured on Engadget as 'coming soon' or many Youtube videos being made about it, and what it'll look like, what it'll do etc.

Instead of making new Windows operating systems, get a XBOX handheld console out on the market. But, don't come up with the excuse of "Well, Sony has a powerful console (PS3) and a nice unique handheld (PSP)" If Sony and Nintendo can enter the market like that, you can Microsoft!

PS3 Media Streaming For Free?

The PS3 is a lot more than just a games console. In fact, a large number buy it for it's media capabilities alone, enticed by it's built in blu-ray and wide support for various kinds of media content.

Why then, is it such a major annoyance to set it up for media streaming? So many solutions to this problem are costly or extremely fiddly to set up.

Today I am going to show you a FREE piece of software that works on multiple platforms that allows you to stream, copy and transcode your media in real time from your computer to your PS3. Good stuff eh?

The software can be found here.

It's free, safe and secure, so download today. What have you got to lose?

I have included a demonstration video below that barely scrapes the surface and potential of this software, so see it for yourself.

Have fun

PS3 HDD Upgrade?

Like many, I use my PS3 for media. In fact, it is all I use my PS3 for as I do not currently own any games. As such, my PS3 is completely clogged up with media and I am beginning to run low on space.

Two nights ago, I was wracking my brains attempting to formulate an idea for yesterday's blog post. I may or may not have mentioned that I intend to write a blog post daily, so thinking up an idea can prove to be tricky. This blog post is only late because it took a little longer to produce than I had hoped, and the filming of a future entry we also shot yesterday turned out to be an epic fail that consumed all time for blog writing and video editing/uploading. So I apologize.

Anyway, It suddenly came to me. A couple of months back, my 160GB (double the storage of the PS3) died on me without warning. With the help of time machine and my savings account, the same day I was back up and running on a faster 250GB drive. I put the old HDD away, thinking nothing of it. Recently I have read various sites talking of ways HDDs can recover, some entirely miraculously, so I thought why not give it a try in the PS3.

Even if it doesn't work, it still shows how to upgrade the drive, so this entry is at least useful in some remote way. Will it work? Watch to find out.

Before I hand over to my lovely looking face and my good pal Amanda, I feel I should link you to the guide I read prior to this video. That way this blog is self contained and teaches you something without having to watch the video, instead of it just being a lame attempt at promoting my own video content.

But anyway, without further ado I bring you 'PS3 Hard Drive Upgrade?'
