iPhone 4 MyWi vs. Comcast Cable Speed Test

MyWi is an app that turns your jailbroken iPhone into a hotspot. That's right. A wireless router that any device can connect to. It includes WEP security so you can create a password to keep others off your data plan. This along with 3G Unrestrictor are two of the most compelling reasons to jailbreak. You can get MyWi through RockApp in Cydia. While its expensive for an app at $19.99 this is very cheap if it leads you to buy a wifi only iPad as opposed to a 3G one or if you pay for internet access at places like airports. For a more in depth review. Here I did a speed test comparing download speeds on my iMac using the 3G connection on my iPhone 4 with MyWi and my Comcast cable connection through a Linksys router.

My Favorite Way of Accessing Twitter from My iPhone

Over the last couple of weeks I have been looking for the best way to access Twitter from my iPhone.  There are two basic ways of accessing Twitter from an iPhone: through a mobile browser or with a Twitter application. One method that is often overlooked is notification services. A notification service is a mixture of an application and a website. My favorite notification service so far has been Boxcar.

Boxcar is great for Twitter because it can send notifications for your entire timeline. Many Twitter applications only allow notifications for @ replies and DMs. Boxcar sends notifications for every tweet as they are sent.  To some this may seen annoying, especially at night. Luckily, Boxcar allows you to set up a 'Quiet-Time.'  During the Quiet-Time your iPhone will not receive any notifications from Boxcar. In my opinion, this makes Boxcar more like a desktop Twitter client. The Boxcar application is free when you set up one service. If you want to set up an additional service like Facebook or email, then you must complete an in-app purchase. I suggest you give this a fair shot. I really enjoy it.

Apple iPhone Stock Photo Without AT&T Label. Can Someone Say Verizon iPhone?

As the photo above shows, Apple decided to not include an AT&T label on their stock photos of the iPhone. This applies to all iPhones on Apple.com. This makes people wonder... Why aren't they on there? Are they testing a CDMA or Verizon version of the iPhone? In addition to this Apple also stated that they have Verizon cell towers on their main campuses. You decide.

iPhone 4 Jailbreak Arrives! Takes 15 Minutes!

A few hours ago Comex released a jailbreak for the iPhone 4. I gave it a shot and had Cydia installed in 15 minutes. The jailbreak works for all iPhones (3G, 3GS & iPhone 4) on the latest firmware 4.0 or 4.0.1. Also it works on the iPad on iOS 3.2.1. Be sure to backup your SHSH blobs before jailbreaking.

This web based jailbreak does not require a computer. All you have to do is open Safari on your iPhone and go to http://jailbreakme.com. The servers are slammed so it may not load, but as you can see in this video it's a piece of cake. Now your iPhone 4 can have Cydia!

Tech Survey: July 26, 2010

Today I have a tech survey for you guys. I recently saw David's video to take the survey. Most of the questions are about the Mac, such as: Windows on a Mac, TextEdit, Word, or Pages? Do you use Spaces?

I thought the questions were very cool. I don't think I took the whole survey since I have the 10 minute cap, but the questions I answered were very interesting about my Mac. Do you want to know my answers to all of the 35+ questions? Take a look at the video above.
